Today, my heart is filled with gratitude and pride.
Seven years ago, a young woman of Karen origin who grew up as the daughter of refugees from Myanmar came into our lives. Her name is Pha Sai. From the very first day, she and Martin shared a special bond. During the difficult years following his stroke, she became part of our care team, our little sunshine, always bringing warmth, kindness, and quiet strength into our home.
At that time, Pha Sai carried a dream deep within her heart: she wanted to become a nurse. But she wasn’t sure whether life would ever give her that opportunity.
One day, one of Martin’s nurses moved in with us and brought her nursing cap. Pha Sai looked at it with such admiration that she hardly dared to touch it. Martin smiled, gently encouraged her to put it on, and asked her to look at herself in the mirror. Then he quietly said:
“One day, you will become a qualified nurse.”
Today, seven years later, that dream has come true.
After years of hard work, dedication, courage and perseverance, Pha Sai graduated today from Asia-Pacific International University as a qualified nurse.
Some dreams begin very quietly. And sometimes, with love, encouragement and the faith of someone who believes in us, they grow into an entirely new life.
I couldn’t be prouder of you, dear Pha Sai, and I am deeply grateful that you have become such an important part of my life.
